More Bed Time Stories Submitted by: Kenda
Reading books is the best thing you can do to give your children an extra boost in the world of literature and many, many days at school. My girls and I have so many favorites it is hard to choose which one to read. My oldest daughter is very bright and reads at a third grade level and she is in first grade this year. I attribute that to the wonderful teachers that she has had and the belief of putting books into their hands as soon as they can hold them. I read to my girls in the womb and I still read to them today! We have several stories that we frequent. Some are short stories, some are longer, and some are longer still with chapters, etc... I try to limit story time to 15 minutes. It works best for us, but experiment with your children. If the story brings up questions, please take time to listen and answer them. That is their imagination at work and proves that they are listening to you. Here are a few of our favorites: Any Disney princess books, Any of the Fancy Nancy books, Any Clifford the Big Red Dog books One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish - Dr. Seuss books are awesome! ![]() Groundhog gets a say - by Pamela Curtis Swallow ![]() John Philip Duck - by Patricia Polacco ![]() Officer Buckle and Gloria - by Peggy Rathmann ![]() Tiger Can't Sleep - by S.J. Fore ![]() Five Minute Tales for 6 year olds - a collection of short stories ![]() Vunce Upon A Time - by Jolto Seibold and Siobhan Vivian ![]() The Rainbow Fish - by Marcus Pfister ![]() The House that Jack Built - by Jeanette Winter ![]() Miss Bindergarten gets Ready for Kindergarten - by Joseph Slate ![]() Pigs Love Potatoes - by Anika Denise ![]() The Spirit of Christmas - by Nancy Tillman ![]() The Wild Little Horse - by Rita Gray ![]() Eight Animals Play Ball - by Susan MIddleton Elya ![]() The Gruffalo - by Julia Donalson and Axel Scheffler ![]() This list is small compared to the amount of books in our home and only a small portion of our favorites. If situation does not provide the opportunity for you to own these books, just visit the local library and check out one or two a week with your child and watch their eyes shine with the brilliant worlds that open up for their imaginations! We all live such busy lives and it can become very difficult to find the quality time that every child needs and craves. But....it only takes 15 mins. 15 minutes to make an impact on your little one's mind and heart that will last a life time. Thank you Doug for paving the way for this story! Sincerely and until another time, Kenda There are no comments yet! You could be the first. |
