Fizzy Fun

Fizzy Fun Looking for something to do with your kid(s) that is kind of out of the ordinary? Here's a fun science activity you can do together. It can be a little messy but that's all part of the fun. All you need is a glass, preferably one you can see through and some baking soda. Have the kid(s) go through the kitchen and find some safe liquids (lemon juice, water, cooking oil, juice, soda, etc.) The goal of this science project is to find out which common liquids are acidic.

Put a teaspoon of baking soda in the glass and then pour in a teaspoon or more of the chosen liquid. If the liquid is acidic the mixture will fizz and foam. The more acid the more fizz and foam you'll get. Be sure to rinse and dry your utensils before testing something new.

If you want to make it a true science adventure you can download a chart to keep track of all the liquids you test.

For some added fun try adding a small amount of baking soda to a glass of lemonade or orange juice to make a fizzy drink. Don't add too much or it will taste yucky!
