Music

Music

Music is something that everyone listens to, but sometimes the type of music is important to the growth and development of a child.

I prefer not to listen to some of the newer music out there, but everyone has a certain type of music they like to listen to and I am not one to judge it.

I like almost all music with a few exceptions. I have found for myself that "Classical" music is the choice along with Kids Bop for many reasons ( I do have children ). When we all listen to classical music, my children want to know what instrument is making a certain sound. I will tell them that this one is the violin, or perhaps the snare drum. Maybe a french horn or the flute.

I enjoy the fact that they don't mind listening to this type of music, at least for now. But also that they can hear some really great music. I have told my oldest that one person who wrote some of the music to be played was deaf.

She didn't know what to say for a bit and then asked me, "If he was deaf, how did he hear it?" A good question by someone so little. I told her that at one time he could hear and knew the sounds, but now what he heard was in his mind and that is what he wrote on paper.

There was a Halloween concert that my now (Ex) wife had taken my oldest to, due to my having to work. She was able to see all the instruments being played. She looked at her mother and told her that she wished I could have been there. She said that I would have liked it.

I would have liked being able to see her looking and seeing and knowing what instruments were being played, and okay, all of us being able to listen to the symphony!

It is amazing what children learn, but it is up to all of us as parents to help guide them and also to be able to expand all of their horizons for learning. Music is a fraction of what children learn, but it could also be the doorway to something that they decide to participate in and make it part of their life, not just to listen to but also to be involved in.

Hi, I just 'stumbled' across this website and when I saw your post entitled 'music' I had to have a read, having just written a blog post myself with the same title. I completely agree about the importance of music in the growth and development of a child. So much so in fact, I am already pondering what music I want to play to my child and I don't have one yet! My wife and I just recently started trying for a baby so we don't even know if we are pregnant yet either!
I know, I'm a little ahead of myself, but thats why I started to blog to keep a record of my thoughts and where my mind wanders off to during this exciting time of trying to start a family.

Anyway, I enjoyed your post and when I imagine what music I want to play for my child I always think of what bands I could hopefully get them into as they get older, maybe bands around now or the last 20 years that are actually good, the last thing I want them to listen to is whatever the 'pop' music of the time is.. thats ALWAYS bad. But I hadn't considered before what to play for them as a newborn or toddler, you know background music to set the mood for the home. I suppose classical music is a great choice and I'm glad to gear your child taking interest in it. Food for an enquiring mind, huh.

Hi Ramie,

Yes you are very correct. I appreciated you comments and also some background on who he was. I shared your information with my oldest so that she would know more about him.

I have some more history that I am going to share with her so she will know even more about some of these wonderful Composers and music that they have given us.

Warm regards,

Dad to the Bone...

I assume you're referring to Ludwig Van Beethoven. He was a prodigy at the piano and a prolific composer. When he started to lose his hearing he had produced hundreds of compositions. I would imagine that after living and breathing his craft through writing for many different instruments you would be able to hear all of it in your head before it were to go on paper.
