Make them come running!

Submitted by: Doug Warburton

Make them come running! Okay, so when I grew up my mom used to make pancakes! These were not the stuff of a box, but from scratch. I remember smelling bacon and her coffee and knew it was time to get up and have breakfast! Our day was Sunday, a day where we ALL were home and it was our day and no one else's!

I would run into the kitchen and ask if I could help? Mom would say yes with a smile, and then tell me to set the table! Not really what I had in mind, but hey...

We had pancakes and bacon or sausage and fruit and juice or milk and life was great!

So here is what you need, depending on how big or small those tummies are and how many tummies you are feeding. Let's go for a house of three, that will make it easy.

1 cup flour

1 or 2 teaspoons of Baking powder.
(this is kinda important..if you live at "high" elevation, you want to use less or you will have a frizbee!! Just so ya know.

1 teaspoon of salt

1 to 2 eggs. (optional)

1 Tablespoon of sugar (optional)

1 Tablespoon of cinnamon (optional)

1 teaspoon of flavor like vanilla (optional)

1 cupish of milk (or water) for those who don't handle milk very well. The ish is add if it is too sticky..but be carefull. Don't put all of it in at once...

Wisk away!!

Get the griddle ready and what I do is because one of mine likes blueberries in hers and the other one likes bannanas on top of hers, I have them get the fruit ready and then set the table. Makes them part of it........Oh yeah, sorry forgot! I start the bacon early so that the aroma mingles in their little noses...They come running!!

Add any fruit to the cakes just after pouring the batter and when you see the air bubbles, give them a flip and they should be golden brown on the top.

Cakes are done and ready to eat. Any other type of fruit they want to eat is on the table along with the syrup. I make it a bit more special by taking powdered sugar and sifting it on the cakes. I also have learned that little girls think flowers as a center piece are really cool, so we go and get some flowers and put them on when it is time.

Just thoughts on how to make one day a very special day for the ones that mean the most to you!

Remember too, this is a fast and easy mix and can be done any day to give them a great breakfast that is good for them and will fill them up for the day ahead!!

Good eats as Alton Brown likes to say..

Enjoy the time you have, because you can't get it back.....

Thanks for the input Sassy Momma! I hope you have as much fun with this as I do!!  I know that my two little gilrs just love it when they smell the bacon and I tease them and say something about pancakes and bacon and all the goodies!!  Amazing who two little people wake up so fast!! Don't you think??
