Microwave Baked Potato

Microwave Baked Potato Sometimes your just in a hurry or don't want to take forever making something simple. Baking a potato can cost you some time. So here's how to get it done in the microwave.

Wash the potato as you normally would.

Poke deep holes in the potato to vent steam. Some people suggest making an 'X' or 'T' with a knife. I find stabbing it with a fork a few times works just as good.

You can wrap the potato in a WET paper towel to keep in the moisture and reduces shrinkage. I prefer to pour a tiny amount of cooking oil over it and placing it in an opened zip lock bag. Put it on a plate and put it into the microwave.

Cook on high for 6-7 minutes. (Time will vary depending on the potato size). For smaller potatoes you could get it done in 3-4 minutes.
For multiple potatoes, wrapped individually you'll want to make adjustments accordingly:

1 potato - 6-7 minutes
2 potatoes - 9-12 minutes
3 potatoes - 13-16 minutes
4 potatoes - 18-22 minutes

Check it towards the end of the cycle. Squeeze it to check for stiffness. (careful it will be hot!) You want it somewhat soft for eating and while still slightly firm deep inside.

You'll want to let it stand five minutes to allow the insides to finish cooking and become fluffy. You can speed this up a bit by wrapping it in aluminum foil.

Garnish with your choice of butter; parsley; green onions or chives; sour cream; cheese; crispy bacon. And your done!
