Aug. 10, 2009 Monday: I am glad we are finally leaving I tried to sleep last night but was too excited. I spotted Isana's carry on bag and jumped in so she didn't forget me. Don't I look cute peaking out?

The cab arrived very early at 5:00 a.m. right on time. Had a good ride, I got to look out the front window of the cab. Arrived at airport and checked in - lots of people. I'm scarred, I've never flown before. Here I am at the airport. It took us 30 minutes to get through security check point I had to go through the scanner since I was inside Isana's carry on.

Our plane left on time - full of people. As this is my first flight I am very excited. Jerry slept and Isana dozed, read and dozed again. I finally slept and woke up when we landed in Portland, Oregon. We had to walk forever to get on another plane. Our 1st flight was on Alaska #573 next Horizon #2450 to Vancouver, B.C., Canada. It was full too.
It was small and had propellers. Flight time was 1 hour.

Jerry took photos of some mountains in the distance when we passed over Seattle - probably Mt. Rainer. Weather in Portland was sunny but closer to Vancouver it started getting cloudy. Had to make radar approach for landing glad our pilot for a good one. Hardly felt the wheels touch down. RAIN!! I almost got wet but Isana kept me dry in her bag. Customs let us through without any questions.
Our hostess from Holland America is Angela. She was very nice taking us outside and got bus tickets for our transfer to the Hotel Pan Pacific. Wanted to get a photo of our driver but he was too busy driving. Jerry took photo of traffic. Vancouver has a green flashing signal until a vehicle approaches on the cross street then the red comes on. Checked into our Hotel - here is Laura getting our keys and checking us in.
SHE'S CUTE!
Our room is 805 and so big. I'll be able to run around some. We went to have lunch at Café Pacifica. Our waitress was J.C. Jerry & Isana split a seafood platter.

Looked good but not for me. I need a meat bone. While they ate I watched a seagull take a bath - wanted to bark at him but promised to behave on this trip. Lunch cost $50.00. Seafood good, had flat bread that was good with rosemary & lemongrass on it. Desert looked good but we didn't have any.

I was happy to see that most all the Taxi's were Prius. Smart Canadians! We walked around an area known as Gastown. I saw two dogs so started my search for Fred T. Bear by asking them if they had seen him, they shook their heads NO and then wished me luck in finding Fred T.

We had a Panda Express dinner in the food court across from the hotel.
Then off to bed. End of day 1 - more later.
